My Thoughts on The Godzilla Suits

Hey guys! This is probably the most random thing I've posted on deviantART. This my thoughts on the Godzilla suits. With the 2014 reboot quickly approaching on the horizon, I figured now is the time to give my thoughts on the evolution of Godzilla's design. So here we go: ;)

Godzilla 1954 (Picture #1)-This suit is like makeup on woman; less is more. I love how simple yet effective this design is. I especially love the look of his eyes; they are so dead looking yet mean, which fits Godzilla's character in the movie. Overall a great start for Toho.

Godzilla 1955 (Picture #2)-This suit is a bit of downgrade from '54 but not terrible. My only real complainant is that it looks a little too skinny. He still has the mean/dead looking eyes, so that's a plus.

Godzilla 1962 (Picture #3)-There's a reason this suit is a fan-favorite; of all the 60's Godzilla's this one's the most dinosaurian looking out of all them. He's big, bulky and overall ready to kick Kong's ass. Again love that he has the mean/dead eyes.

Godzilla 1964 (Picture #s4-5)-Another fan-favorite and for good reason. This one like the previous ones has very mean-looking eyes and a wicked looking brow. In 'Ghidorah: The Three-Headed Monster' they used a different head, but it just looks goofy in close ups.

Godzilla 1965-1966 (Picture #s6-7): This suit is where the in the Showa series they started to soften Godzilla's look while still making him look ferocious; makes since because Goji had become an antihero at this point. In Sea Monster though he looks like the Cookie Monster. Strange huh?

Godzilla 1967 (Picture #8)-I get where Toho was going with this one, trying to make Godzilla more softer since in Son of Godzilla he becomes a dad, but this one's kinda a love it or hate it suit. I personally think it's ok. The face is rather ugly in my opinion.

Godzilla 1968-1972(Picture #s9-12)-This suit is one of my personal favorites because it shows what Godzilla had become at that point in the Showa series; a heroic guardian of the Earth with a monstrous attitude. This suit was also the most used in the entire Showa series as well as the franchise.

Godzilla 1973-1975 (Picture #s13-15): This suit's progression for the last three films in the Showa series is interesting: In Godzilla vs Megalon he looks like a Saturday morning cartoon character. In Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla he's given a little more of his earlier ferocity in his face. And in Terror of MechaGodzilla it's a happy balance.

Godzilla 1984 (Picture #16)-I, like many fans, believe that this suit is the closest that Toho has, and ever will, get to resembling the original. It's overall a great modernized look for Goji :) The mean/dead eyes are back, yay :D

Godzilla 1989 (Picture #17)-I love this suit. '89 just captures more of that ferocity that '84 had. He's also a little more dinosaurian than '84 and this design is where they started to give Godzilla a little more mammalian features in the face. Cat-face Godzilla: meow!

Godzilla 1991 (Picture #18)-I friggin' LOVE this suits. '91 takes '89's design and buffs it up! This is the Godzilla of I think of when I hear the name: It's big, powerful and intimidating. And his eyes, OMG the eyes! They look super pissed, which fits Godzilla in that movie. Love you '91 :D

Godzilla 1992 (Picture #19)-In '92 Godzilla looks a little less bulky then '91, but that's not a bad thing. This suit is a happy balance like '89.

Godzilla 1993 (Picture #20)-With '93 they softened Godzilla's face, since in this one he's going from a destructive force to a creature who's trying to create a better life for himself by adopting Baby Godzilla. They also made him a little chunky. I don't why but he is.

Godzilla 1994 (Picture #21)-'94 is pretty much '93 just chunkier. Why Toho, why?!

Godzilla 1995 (Picture #22)-Burning Godzilla is just a sight to behold. Godzilla is even more fiercer when's dying. The glowing patches of skin are a great visual imagine; they make Godzilla seem like a ticking timebomb, which he kinda is!

Godzilla 1999-2000 (Picture #s23-24)-This design is great; a total reimagining of Godzilla while still retaining that classical charm. The face is really dinosaurian and I love it. Also I love the sharp, pointy dorsal spines.

Godzilla 2001 (Picture #25)-This suit scared the shit out of me as a kid because he had no eyes! But now, I love that; you can't tell if he's looking at you or through you, and I really don't want to know! RUN!!!!

Godzilla 2002-2003 (Pictures #s26-27): I love that this design is great combo between the Heisei and G2K Godzilla's. I really love the scar in Tokyo SOS ;)

Godzilla 2004 (Picture #28)-This design is really cool. The only complaint I have with it, is that the dorsal spines are TOO short in my opinion. But other than that, it's awesome!

Well guys that's all I gotta say. Stayed tuned for Chapter One of GODZILLA: TITANS AMONG US. Thanks and have a great day :)

Godzilla is the property of Toho Co. Ltd. Please Toho don't sue me:( I'm not trying to make money of this!
